Bob Vokey is the man who developed these hugely popular Titleist wedges. The latest model and successor to the SM8 is this brand new SM9.
New in the SM9 is the adjustment of the center of gravity in the clubface. To have good control over your ball flight, Bob Vokey has implemented and developed the progressive CG for the SM9 wedges. Progressive CG means the wedges with a lower loft have a lower center of gravity. The more loft the wedge has, the higher the center of gravity is in the clubface. This ensures much more constant ball flights, also between the wedges themselves.
Due to the precision milled grooves on the club face, you can also control the ball very well and easily generate spin.
Available in different grinds:
S-Grind: This grind is the most versatile and best suited for the average golfer.
F-Grind: This Full Grind is the most used on the tour and is a wedge where the clubface is not opened or closed.
M-Grind: The M-Grind offers the option to open or close the clubface to perform certain strokes (e.g. lob shots) (around the green)
Heart & “Sole” of Shot Versatility
F GRIND
An all-purpose grind particularly suited for full shots and shots hit with a square face. Ideal for players who prefer a traditional wedge sole, and the most played sand wedge on Tour.
M GRIND
Voke’s favorite grind is designed for players that like to rotate the club face open and closed to manufacture shots around the green. Ideal for players with a shallower, more sweeping swing type who play shots from a variety of clubface positions.
S GRIND
A full sole that has been narrowed by a trailing edge grind, giving it a faster feel through the turf. This grind is best for neutral to firm conditions and for players that like to control loft with their hands ahead or behind the ball.
D GRIND
Blending versatility from a heel, toe, and trailing edge grind with forgiveness from its high measured bounce. Ideal for players with a steeper angle of attack who play shots from a variety of clubface positions.
L GRIND
The lowest bounce option in the mix with heel, toe, and trailing edge relief. This club is perfect for firm conditions and designed for precise players who have complete control at impact, allowing for maximum shot-making versatility.
K GRIND
The highest bounce wedge in the lineup with a wide, full sole and enhanced camber. The ultimate bunker club is forgiving from a variety of softer sand and turf conditions.
